About our School

The School of Modern Herbal Medicine was founded by Steven Horne in 2001. The school was established to promote herbal medicine and the natural healing arts, and to help people learn how to use natural remedies safely and effectively. Our educational programs cater to a wide variety of needs, from the person who just wants to learn about herbs and natural healing to help themselves and their family, to the person who wants to develop a full-time career helping people with herbs and other natural healing methods.

Steven is a Registered Herbalist and past president of the American Herbalist’s Guild (AHG), an IIPA Certified Iridology Instructor, and past board member of the International Iridology Practitioner’s Association (IIPA). He has been teaching people about herbal medicine and natural healing since 1981 and is a experienced teacher, speaker and author.

What Makes Us Unique?

Here are nine things that make The School of Modern Herbal Medicine a great school to learn with:

1. Powerful and Unique Models of Health and Disease

Our courses are built on a unified philosophy of natural healing defined by models Steven learned or developed in the 80s. These models include the Disease Tree, the Furnace Analogy and the ABC+D concept. These models integrate everything we teach into a unified understanding of healing that enables students to easily put everything they are learning into perspective. These models help students integrate new information as they learn and grow and keep what they are learning in perspective.

2. Complicated Material Is Presented in an Easy-to-Understand Fashion

Students have long commented on Steven’s ability to make very complicated material easy for anyone to understand. In fact, his teaching techniques help people understand what he is teaching so well, that they are often able to start explaining it to others right away. Steven never uses technical jargon and has a knack for both teaching and writing at a level that everyone can grasp quickly and easily.

3. Online and Onsite Study

Most professional herbal schools require onsite study. This means students must pay travel expenses and take large amounts of time away from home to gain a professional education. Most of our courses are taught as online courses, so you can study them at your home or office whenever it is convenient for you. We do require some onsite work, but only what is absolutely essential to be taught in person.

4. A Genuinely Holistic Approach

Our approach is very holistic. We not only discuss herbs, we also talk about diet and lifestyle changes, including sleep, exercise and stress management. We are also unique because we offer a complete training program in working with the mental and emotional aspect of healing. Steven has done extensive work in this area and has powerful tools for incorporating this aspect of healing into your work.

5. Unique and Powerful Learning Systems

Steven participated in an experimental class in learning and teaching during his final year of college. There, he learned a powerful system of learning, which he calls the Three-Person Solution to the Problem of Education. This method of learning allows a person to learn more rapidly and retain information in a usable form for decades. No other school utilizes this powerful learning system.

6. Courses Designed to Work Together

All the courses and materials were written and/or edited to work together so that each course builds on the core understanding presented in the introductory courses. Students are not learning random facts, but acquiring knowledge within a structured framework that allows them to see how each thing they are learning interconnects with the other things they are learning. This integrated approach not only increases understanding and comprehension, it makes application much easier.

7. Affordable Herbal Education

Our programs are very affordable. In comparing our program with other professional herb schools we found that our program will cost about $5 per hour of study, compared with anywhere from $8 per hour to $59 per hour. And that doesn’t count travel expenses.

8. Money-Back Guarantee

We are so confident in our material that we offer a money-back guarantee on all our products, including our courses. Our policies on courses are as follows:

You have 30-days after the course begins to ask for a refund. You must return course manuals and materials (if any) and cancel you registration to the webinar (if applicable) to receive a refund.

When purchasing an entire certification program, you have 60-days from the day the first class begins to ask for a full refund.
For onsite classes and workshops you can get a refund on your deposit up to 60-days before the class.

This means you can try out our programs risk-free and if you don’t like them, you can get your money-back.

9. It’s Easy to Get Started

Finally, we offer two free courses, Running a Consulting Business, which teaches essential legal, business and marketing skills for herbalists and natural healers, and An Introduction to Iridology. We also have an introductory course that teaches all the key concepts our courses are built on for just $39.

So, if you’d like to check our school out, simply enroll in one of our free classes or the Seven Keys to Effective Natural Healing class and see if you like our teaching style and the quality of our information. Then you can decide if you want to continue studying with us. Plus, the Seven Keys course comes with our standard 30-day money-back guarantee.
